Stand Your Ground

In this painting, I was drawn to the contrast between stillness and strength — the calm rhythm of rounded grey stones against the vivid, fiery presence of the crab. Its stance is alert and unapologetic, as though guarding its small kingdom beneath the sea.

Rendered in oil with layered brushwork, the background remains soft and atmospheric, allowing the rich reds, oranges, and golds of the crab to command attention. The composition invites the viewer into an intimate underwater encounter — a moment of quiet confrontation and respect.
